As part of our Meet the Members series, we asked Ciaran about his experience of training at JW Fitness.
Please explain a little about yourself and why you chose to train with JW Fitness.
'I''m 26 years old, I live in Manchester. When growing up I used to play a lot of football however I stopped playing at around 17 due to working full time and also being worried about injuries. From around 17 to 22/23, I started struggling with eating habits and mental health, my weight went up massively, I was struggling, my social life was non-existent and my confidence was at an all time low. It was then my dad saw a Facebook post from John talking about his gym and what he what he thinks a gym should be. We then arranged a meeting with John where we had a talk and I was blown away with how understanding he was and also helpful. I had spoken with 1 or 2 PTs before and I didn't like what they said and how they said it. I unfortunately then had a few set backs personally where I had to stop working with John but then picked it back up again roughly around 3 years ago. And I've not looked back since.'
What if any, were your reservations before starting training with us at JW Fitness?
'Having used other gyms in the past, I've always felt intimidated by the people who were at the gym. One gym I can remember had you walking past the weight section and it was intimidating to walk past it. Also, with being so unhealthy in previous years, I was worried by how bad it would be and also how embarrassing it could be for an overweight person to start at the gym. I was also worried about meeting new people.'
How did we help you eliminate any reservations you had?
'They were able to get rid of the reservations I had by making the gym a really nice and safe environment where you can make mistakes and errors and they will help you out. There also wasn't a daunting section of the gym you have to walk through to get to the area you want. John and Anthony also helped me meet new people by having 4 people in a session I was able to interact with my people on my terms and that was a massive help.'
What are your biggest achievements since training at JW Fitness?
'So one of the main achievements I've made since joining JW Fitness was getting my confidence back. I've always struggled with my confidence and meeting people however since joining the gym I've been more confident and it's been easier meeting people with the environment John and Anthony have created. Another achievement is that I've managed to squat 185kgs* which I love and would only be possible to due to the hardworking PTs.'
What keeps you coming back to train with us?
'What keeps me coming back to the gym is the environment that has been created at the gym by John, Anthony, Mel, Oliver, Rachel and, of course, the other members of the gym. Everyone is lovely and very supportive. We all help each other on, whether you're old or young everyone mixes up and supports one another to help each other smash their targets. I've made friends for life at this gym and I wouldn't change it for the world.'

'I would happily recommend JW Fitness to anyone/everyone as it has had such a positive outcome on me. I used to be angry and tired all the time. Now I have positive way to remove all the stress I have at work and I've also find myself to have more energy to do things and a willingness to leave the house and do stuff on the weekend instead of being in bed all weekend.'
