Meet the Members: Aidan

As part of our Meet the Members series, we asked Aidan about his experience of training at JW Fitness.

Please explain a little about yourself and why you chose to train with JW Fitness.


'I chose to start training with JW Fitness because I was worried that I had started a general downward trend with my physical health. I felt heavy, weak and tired and had no physical definition. I had tried training in a gym when I was at university, but had no idea how to train properly and would overwork myself thinking that if I wasn’t doing 30 minute sprints and 50 reps I wasn’t doing enough which made me tired and hate the exercise. A Personal Trainer seemed like a good way to get over this barrier and JW Fitness was both local, affordable, and had high reviews.'



What if any, were your reservations before starting training with us at JW Fitness?


'Initially I was worried that the gym would have a “gymbro” atmosphere and therefore I was afraid I would be judged for my poor fitness and lacking physique.'



How did we help you eliminate any reservations you had?


'John immediately helped set my mind at ease by being easy-going yet highly professional. He took me through a consultation session and his clear explanation for the exercises I was doing gave me the confidence to try my best. Despite having a funny turn from not eating before the session, John was kind and explained what was happening to me and that it was okay. At no point throughout the near two years of training in the gym have I ever felt judged or excluded. John, Anthony, and later, Rachel have all been incredibly supportive people who make me want to keep coming back and giving my all, to become the best version of myself.'



What are your biggest achievements since training at JW Fitness?


'Before joining JW Fitness I couldn’t do a proper press up, nor come close to touching my toes. Now I can do over 30 consecutive press ups, and with some stretching beforehand, can touch my toes. I can deadlift 175 kg, bench press 75kg, squat 150kg (on a good day) and burn 20 calories on the assault bike in under 20 seconds.'



What keeps you coming back to train with us?


'The atmosphere in the gym is warm, welcoming and always a laugh. I know that no matter how bad my day has gone, I’ll always have a great time working out with the team and my fellow trainees. The new personal bests I reach with what I can lift keep my hungering for bigger numbers and better form, knowing how far I’ve come and how much further I can go means I can never leave.'

'I would recommend anyone join JW Fitness for their excellent service and welcoming

atmosphere. John, Anthony and Rachel are all fantastic at what they do and are capable at training people at any level. Whether you’re 15 or 75, have a physical disability or injury, the team can train around your issues and get more out of you than you ever thought possible. An amazing thing from the team is how they are all clearly going out of their way to learn more about training techniques, muscular anatomy and pushing themselves to be better trainers for us.'
